Run With Us

Every race tells a story. Here's how ours unfolds.

Running has always been more than miles logged and finish lines crossed. For We Run We Rise, it’s the thread that connects youth running clubs across 16 countries in Africa to a growing global community of runners who believe movement builds confidence, belonging, and opportunity.

Our runners carry that story with them. From training runs to start lines, from personal fundraising pages to race day. They aren’t just raising money. They’re running as part of something bigger.

Andy Yathon

On October 3, We Run We Rise board member Andy Yathon will take on the AC 100 Angel’s Crest 100 Mile Endurance Race in support of our youth running clubs across Africa. Andy has been part of the We Run We Rise community since joining us in Tanzania in 2025 to run alongside our youth athletes. Since then, he has continued to champion our mission as a board member and Team We Run We Rise runner, including taking on the Malibu Canyon 100K earlier this year to raise funds for our programs. Through his involvement, Andy has seen firsthand how running, mentorship, and community help young people build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

Join Andy in making his 100 mile race count for more. Help him reach his fundraising goal and give more young people the opportunity to run, grow, and thrive through We Run We Rise.

Sport has played an important role in his life, first through soccer and now through running. Both have taught him the value of discipline, challenging himself, working toward goals, and being part of a team.

Those experiences are a big part of why We Run We Rise resonates with him. He knows firsthand how much sport can shape your confidence, relationships, and sense of belonging, and he believes every young person should have the opportunity to experience that. Running with WRWR gives him a way to support that opportunity for young people across Africa and be part of something that reflects what sport has meant in his own life.

Sebastián Rivera

Running has shaped so much of his life, from representing Mexico internationally as a triathlete to studying in the United States and finding community in Mexico, Spain, and the U.S. The sport has opened doors, introduced him to people who became like family, and given him a sense of what’s possible.

Along the way, running taught him values he still carries with him today: camaraderie, hard work, resilience, teamwork, and confidence. He knows firsthand how much sport can shape who you become, especially during the years when you’re still figuring out who you are and what’s possible.

That’s why We Run We Rise means so much to him. He sees running as an opportunity for young people to build confidence, discover what they’re capable of, and find a sense of belonging. He’s proud to run with Team WRWR and help create space for more young people to experience what running can make possible.

Angel Thomas

After starting to run two years ago, running quickly became a way for her to challenge herself and discover what she is capable of. Along the way, she has learned that you don’t always have to feel ready to take on something difficult. Sometimes, you just have to take the first step. Now, she enjoys setting new goals for herself and encouraging others to do the same.

That mindset is part of what drew her to We Run We Rise. She believes in creating opportunities for young people to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging through movement, mentorship, and community. As she runs with WRWR, she is excited to help create those same opportunities for young people and encourage them to take their own first steps toward discovering what they are capable of.

Cara Klimaszewski

Running has been part of Cara’s life since she was 13, and over the past four years, she’s had the opportunity to coach track and cross country. Through both running and coaching, she has seen firsthand how the sport can build confidence, discipline, connection, and community for young people.

That’s part of what drew her to We Run We Rise. She sees the same potential in WRWR’s work: that running can be so much more than a sport. Through Youth Running Clubs, running becomes a space for young people to grow, build meaningful connections, and feel a sense of belonging in their communities.

Running has become an important part of his life, both for his mental health and overall well being. For him, getting outside and running is a simple way to improve his mood, stay active, and make the most of each day. He believes that health is wealth and that taking care of yourself is an investment in the life you want to live.

We Run We Rise is also the first nonprofit he has ever supported. When he learned more about WRWR, a small moment stood out to him: seeing a young boy in one of WRWR’s videos who had teeth just like his youngest child. That personal connection made the mission feel real to him and reinforced why creating opportunities for young people matters.

We’re grateful to have him running with Team WRWR and supporting a mission that connects something he values personally with opportunities for young people across Africa.

Dalshawn Tyler

Running represents longevity, health, and being able to stay active for the years ahead to Dalshawn. As a father, he wants to stay healthy so he can keep up with his young son and be present for all the moments still to come.

Running has also become a way for him to connect with and support young people. He personally trains a group of 14 boys and believes strongly in the impact that positive influences, encouragement, and mentorship can have during those formative years. He wants to lead by example and show them what they’re capable of.

That’s a big part of why We Run We Rise resonates with him. He sees the same value in WRWR’s approach of using running, mentorship, and life skills education to help young people build confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of what’s possible.

Drew Pearce

Running has been part of his life for more than 16 years, and he describes it as one of the places he feels most free. Over the years, running has taught him resilience and confidence while showing him that he can push through challenges and accomplish goals he once thought were out of reach.

The Indianapolis Half Marathon will be his biggest running challenge yet, and he’s excited to take it on with Team We Run We Rise.

He’s proud to run with an organization that shares his belief in the transformative power of running and works to make that experience accessible to young people around the world. For him, running with WRWR is a chance to take something that has given him so much and help create opportunities for young people to experience it, too.
